cathy green - richmond interior designer

I’m Cathy Green, owner and designer at Cathy Green Interiors.

I am also a wife, a mother, a daughter, and a sister.  My favorite color is purple, I pick restaurants based on their desserts, and March Madness is one of my favorite times of the year.  I enjoy hunting for unique pieces at antique stores, I speak Spanish fluently, and I love fresh cut flowers.  Life is a wonderful, crazy, unpredictable ride, and I am thankful, every day, to have a supportive circle of family and friends with whom we get to share our joys and challenges.

My journey

I have always loved color and patterns.  As a child, I often rearranged my room and mixed and matched different colors from the crayon box.  I remember shopping for wallpaper with my mom for my childhood bedroom – it even had a border!  I enjoy traveling and exploring new places, but my heart is in Richmond.  I grew up in Richmond and attended the University of Richmond where I majored in Spanish, minored in Secondary Education, and spent most of my time on the field hockey field. After graduation, I taught high school Spanish and coached the Varsity field hockey team at a school in Chesterfield County.  I loved working with the students and athletes, but after 8 years of encouraging them to explore their dreams, I decided to take my own advice and follow my true passion of design and interiors.  I returned to the University of Richmond to earn a Certificate in Interior Decorating, and in 2011 I started Cathy Green Interiors.

Along the way in my design journey, it has been such a pleasure to meet and work with many wonderful designers and vendors.  From shadowing, to collaborating with, to watching in wonder – I have gained so much knowledge and experience through my talented peers in the industry.  I also spent three years on the board of the Richmond chapter of the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA).  With IFDA, I was able to experience first-hand the talent that the Richmond design community has to offer.  We worked to cultivate industry relationships and helped to promote a supportive and collaborative Richmond design community.

My passion

I love helping clients discover their design style and designing rooms that truly express their style.  Creating personal color schemes and highlighting clients’ story pieces are two of my favorite parts of the design process.  We all spend a great deal of time in our homes, and they should be filled with rooms that not only reflect who we are and what we love, but that also function for our busy lifestyles.  I am honored that clients invite me into their homes, and I take pride in helping them accomplish beautiful designs.
