Recently, many people have been asking me: “What exactly do you do?” “Can you help me with X or Y?” The short answer is that I’m an interior decorator for residential spaces. What exactly does that mean? I decided to let a few of my clients tell how I helped them create spaces they love.
“I have loved using Cathy as my very helpful interior consultant! That is what I need is a consultant, and she has been great. I know what I like but I don't know how to put it together and that's where working with Cathy has been a dream and she has been great about using what I have or freshening up what I have for a more updated look. She makes it all seem so easy and effortless!!!” ~ Connie, M., Tuckahoe, VA
Connie loves to use color in her rooms. These are two paint colors (both from Sherwin Williams) we chose for two spare bedrooms in her home.
“I hired an interior decorator because, although I knew what types of things I liked in terms of furnishings, I wasn't sure how to bring it to fruition. I needed someone who knew where to start and who could take my ideas and create a final product that reflected my taste. Specifically, in my family room, we had a television cable box and DVD player sitting on top of a flimsy piece of wooden furniture that looked sloppy and not put together. This area was also unsafe for my son. So, I contacted Cathy Green and asked her to come up with some new ideas about how to store these items and create storage for my son's toys. Cathy selected many bookshelf options and in the end we decided to get built in bookshelves for a clean permanent look. I also had an area on my wall in the family room that housed a cheap painting. That painting was never meant to be a permanent fixture, but it was more of a quick fix. Cathy suggested a variety of photo arrangements and ultimately she created a design for us to display family pictures in a balanced arrangement. If it hadn't been for Cathy, I would still have a hodge podge of mismatched items floating around in my family room. Cathy helped create a complete look and style to our family room, which was originally missing.” ~ Jackie O., Midlothian, VA
“I had a small space to work with and the space had to serve several needs. My spare bedroom had to become a nursery for my first grandchild and serve as a bedroom for overnight guests. I am not a shopper, and was not confident selecting paint colors or fabrics and I couldn't visualize the arrangement of furniture. And working full time, I didn't know when I'd find the time for this task. But, most importantly, I couldn't afford to make a mistake. I truly didn't know how or where to begin.
So, an interior decorator was a must. I quickly discovered that having no idea what I wanted made this a task for me and I was dreading it. However, with my interior designer's ideas upon ideas, she made what seemed to be an overwhelming task become an enjoyable experience. We started from scratch. Other than a rocking chair, everything else for the room had to be purchased. I got excited with every one of her phone calls, every link she sent me with items for the room, every photo with a suggested piece of furniture, and every visit with paint colors and fabrics. Now, nine months later, every time I walk into the nursery/guest room, I smile remembering what fun it was watching the room come to life!” ~ Nancy M., Richmond, VA
“While we had many thoughts and ideas for what we could do to spruce up an odd shaped room, we really had no idea how to pull it all together. We decided to hire an interior decorator to provide that special expertise to help us visually draw attention away from the long rectangular shape of the room while still tapping into our tastes and making the room feel comfortable.” ~ Stacey L., Richmond, VA
We chose the Gavin Swivel chair, in Sonya Berry fabric, from Arhaus in order to add extra seating and a pop of color to their room.
I love working with clients on projects big or small. My ultimate goal is always to have the client love being in their home. Here is a sampling of design services I offer:
Many people do not realize the benefits of hiring an interior decorator. With the amount of time we all spend in our homes, being in a space that is warm, inviting, and refreshing is well worth the investment. By utilizing a decorator’s knowledge and resources, you will save time and money, and wonder why you did not make the call sooner. Stop staring at all of the projects you’ve been meaning to begin or complete, and start loving walking in your front door!
If you know someone who needs help jump starting their design project, please pass my name along and put me in touch with them. Spouses who cannot agree on where to start, baby boomers wanting to refresh rooms after their children have moved out, spaces that need to serve multi-purposes, or new home owners wanting to make their new house feel like home ~ I can transform their design dilemmas into enviable spaces.
