Chippenham Playroom ~ Dedication Ceremony & Sneak Peek

This week A Small Comfort held a beautiful dedication ceremony to officially open the Chippenham Playroom! A Small Comfort is a wonderful organization that was founded by Bill and Kirsten Tanner to help families going through very difficult situations. This project was very close to their hearts, as they spent many hours in the playroom with their young daughter during her battle with cancer. donating plaque

I feel honored to have been a part of this exceptional project.  My first meeting with Lee was back in March.  While Lee was fundraising, I was designing, and we worked together for countless hours over the past seven months to create a fun playroom for the courageous children at the hospital.  It was amazing to see it all come together.  I was so pleased to hear from doctors and nurses at the hospital how much the children will enjoy this special place.

During the ceremony, I had the honor of cutting the ribbon and opening the room!

Bill and Kirsten waited to see the completed room until the day of the ceremony.  I had the pleasure of showing them the new playroom for the first time and seeing their reaction.

A Small Comfort ~ Chippenham Playroom Project

I am excited to share with you a project that I have been working on for several months!

Vote here!

I’ve teamed up with a local non-profit ~ A Small Comfort ~ to renovate the children’s playroom at Chippenham Medical Center.  “A Small Comfort, Inc was founded in 2009 as an effort to support and comfort parents and their children in times of crisis.  In times of uncertainty and doubt A Small Comfort strives to provide "comfort” and normalcy to families with a child facing a chronic or life threatening illness."

I created two room designs for the playroom and now it’s up to the public to vote for their favorite design.

Design Option 1

Design Option 1 is based around the adorable animal prints by Creative Thursday.  Each print would be framed and matted to accentuate the art work.  The colors on the walls are blues and greens giving a ‘grass and sky’ feel to the room which relates to the jungle theme.  The children’s table is made to look like a tree stump, and the chairs continue with the blue and green theme.  There are wall play units and play tables throughout the room to engage the children.  There is also a ‘tree house’, a ‘garage’ for toy cars, and a storage shelf for movies.

Design Option 2

Design Option 2 is based around the bright and geometric animal wall decals.  Color blocks of different paint colors highlight each animal.  The bold colors and fun shapes give a whimsical feel to the room, while still continuing the jungle theme of the floor.  The children’s table and chairs are a fun shape to echo the playfulness of the decals.  There are wall play units and play tables throughout the room to engage the children.  There is also a ‘tree house’, a ‘garage’ for toy cars, and a storage shelf for movies.
